Jarred Gillett appointed to first English Premier League match as Referee

The Professional Football Referees’ Association Inc. (PFRA) wishes to congratulate Jarred Gillett on his appointment to referee the English Premier League match between Watford and Newcastle. In doing so, Gillett becomes the first overseas referee in Premier League history, a monumental achievement.

Gillett refereed his last match in the A League in 2019 before moving to England to further his academic career whilst also continuing to officiate in the English Football Leagues as part of the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) Select Group 2.

Gillett was a founding member of the PFRA, acting as the association’s secretary from its commencement in 2013 until resigning from the position earlier this year. The PFRA is extremely proud of Gillett’s achievements with PFRA President Paul Cetrangolo saying, “This is a fantastic achievement for Jarred. He is an exceptional referee, and this appointment represents an unprecedented milestone in what has already been a great career.”

The PFRA wishes Gillett the best for this appointment and looks forward to supporting him as his Premier League journey continues.
